Amazing Grace Lyrics

The Amazing Grace lyrics, penned by John Newton an English poet, clergy and former slave trader, were published in 1779. This traditional hymn is one of the most recognized songs in the western hemisphere, and has become the song of choice played at funerals.

The additional lyrics to Amazing Grace are taken from Scripture in Song, Songbook Two, compiled by David and Dale Garratt.

Amazing Grace

(Key of G)

Amazing grace! how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found
Was blind, but now I see

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed

Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come
'Tis grace that brought me safe thus far
And grace will lead me home

When we've been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we first begun

Praise God....

(Just for your information, according to the songbook "Sacred Songs and Solos, the last stanza reads as follows:)

Yea, when this heart and flesh shall fail
And mortal life shall cease
I shall possess within the vail
A life of joy and peace
